Dr. Matthew Rien
Dr. Matthew Rien was raised in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. A proud Virginia Tech “Hokie,” he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Tech University before going on to receive his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine.
Following graduation, Dr. Rien completed a rigorous three-year podiatric medicine and surgical residency at Bellevue Hospital, a Level I trauma center affiliated with New York University. During his training, he served as Chief Resident, where he managed junior residents, delivered educational lectures, and led surgical skills laboratories. He also volunteered with multiple community outreach programs throughout New York City. Dr. Rien’s extensive training encompasses both elective and non-elective foot and ankle surgery, though he maintains a conservative, patient-centered approach whenever possible.
In 2017, Dr. Rien joined Harrisburg Foot and Ankle Center. He holds privileges at UPMC and Penn State Health hospital systems and remains actively involved in the UPMC podiatry residency program. A certified wound specialist (CWS), Dr. Rien has served as a coordinator and investigator for numerous clinical research studies since arriving in Harrisburg.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Rien enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, hiking, and skiing. He is also an avid “sneakerhead,” with a passion for collecting limited-edition sneakers.
Dr. Rien is happily married to his wife, Natasha, a native of central Pennsylvania. Together, they are proud parents of two wonderful children.
